Care of Orphans and Abandoned Children
This includes children who have lost one or both parents through death; children whose parents though alive, suffer starvation and are neglected due to their parents' destitution. Such children are maintained, given moral and physical education, and medical care. Their aptitudes are thus discerned and developed.
The Poor and Homeless Aged
This group comprises of poor old people who have been neglected by both family and friends. It is a common sight nowadays to see such poor homeless old men and women hanging around public places in small huts and by the roadsides. They are merely existing, not actually living. People often mistake them for lunatics, but they are not insane. They are only hungry and impoverished. They are frequently sick and cannot afford proper medical attention and care. The Holy Family Sisters of the Needy take such people into their homes where they are properly taken care of both spiritually and materially.
The Teenage Unmarried Pregnant Girls
Single women and young girls who become pregnant are saturated with information on abortion. To some it might appear that this is the only workable solution. The Holy Family Sisters of the Needy welcome such girls and help them to give birth to their babies, caring for them and their babies, reconciling them with God and their families. Such girls and other girls in difficult situations are rehabilitated through skill acquisition in order to be self-reliant. This particular aspect of the Apostolate of the Holy Family Sisters of the Needy is taken as a 'A Special Charism'. This makes the members of this Religious Order a Pro-Life Group.
The Marginalised Poor and Destitute
In this country there are thousands of men and women, old and young, boys and girls, who because of ill health, circumstances of birth etc. suffer destitution and groan under the weight of hopeless inhuman conditions and treatment. Such people are not guaranteed one single meal a day. Such people are being cared for by the Holy family Sisters of the Needy, by providing them food and also helping them to be self-reliant through learning and acquisition of skills.
